METAL TO INFINITY (Belgium)
I'm completely satisfied and honoured spreading the words of NY based Aspire's new effort entitled "The Age Of Reckoning", released by the guys themselves. Aspire's previous album "Quest Eternal" shows a lot of great talent, offered by only two members named Ryan Metzger (vocals) and guitarist Al Candello. These guys formed the band two years ago, worked fingers to the bone bringing attractive Metal music to people end finally their third album is a fact, ready to unleash.

The more i was impressed by album number two, this new one "The Age Of Reckoning" is even better. Quite the same style as earlier works which means awesome vocals that reminds me of Danny White from Cauldron Born (disbanded), Bobby Lucas (Overlorde), Mark Shelton from Manilla Road and a few other great US Metal frontmen. Exactly those kinda singers i like the most of all. Clear vocals, sometimes high-pitched...that the way it should be to me!

As for the style of music, prepare for a superb blend of US Power Metal with a serious symphonic / orchestral feel. Something like Cauldron Born meets Skylark / early Labyrinth, not that simple to accept but that's the way i feel while hearing Aspire doing their duties. The line-up isn't changed. Ryan's still the singer in the band and he's better than before. In my review of "Quest Eternal" i described him as kinda unstable sometimes but that was then, this is now. The new album contains some kinda reborn singer who took a big step forward regarding his vocally skills!

About Al Candello, he was in very good shape and he still is. Great axeman with magical fingers giving away beautiful works as soon as his guitar starts to roar. The new album contains 10 songs, again with symphonic or orchestral passages fitting very well with their own style of US Power Metal. All is produced / arranged by Aspire themselves and the results are brilliant.

They got company from a female vocalist named Charlotte Miller who sings a small part of the song "Center And Part Of the Whole". Fans of the US Metal movement, better watch out for songs like: "Burn The Witch", "Repentance", "Kynvorloc", 'Verona's Walls"... Totally content with a release like this is my personal verdict! "The Age Of Reckoning" is a wonderful piece of US Metal to me including so much musical varieties, it really kicked me in the head. Don't wait to order please, otherwise you're not worth to wear the name US Metal maniac.

Ich fand ja schon Aspire's Debütalbum "Quest Eternal" richtig cool, doch was das Duo um Gitarrist Al Candello und Sänger Ryan Metzger auf ihrem Zweitwerk "The Age Of Reckoning" nachlegt, das stellt nicht bloß im direkten Vergleich zum Vorgänger einen weiteren Riesenschritt nach vorne da und sondern es entpuppt sich nach mehrmaligem Abchecken gar als das meiner Meinung nach beste Melodic Metal Album der letzten Jahre!! Jawohl, ihr habt richtig gelesen, hier haben wir es zweifelsohne mit einem zukünftigen Referenzwerk zu tun, an dessen beachtlicher Klasse sich alle kommenden Verfechter des melodischen Stahls werden messen lassen müssen!! Ein Vergleich, dem wohl -- so unfair es auch klingen mag -- die wenigsten melodic-metallenen Recken standhalten werden, denn im Gegensatz zum Löwenanteil der Konkurrenz kommen bei Aspire zwar auch die vielerorts eher zwiespältig aufgenommenen Keyboards nicht zu kurz, doch anstatt die Musik zu verwässern und in Richtung Kitsch zu treiben, fügen sie sich hier wirklich toll ins Gesamtbild mit ein und tragen somit ihren höchsteigenen Beitrag zur Epik und Dramatik der grandiosen Songs mit bei, wobei sie dann auch eher an Kultbands wie Virgin Steele, Lordian Guard oder die Schweizer Emerald erinnern, denn an den nervtötenden italo-skandinavischen Kleistereinheitsbrei!! Und auch die so oft belächelten Kindermelodien, die man bei den meisten Genrekollegen notgedrungen ertragen muss, sucht man bei Aspire vergebens, nein, so etwas hat diese Wahnsinnstruppe nicht nötig... zwar gehen auch Al und Ryan mit reichlich Hang zu spielerischen Songaufbauten und einprägsamen Refrains und dergleichen zu Werke, doch driften sie dabei niemals in klebrig-kleisterige Wischiwaschi-Gefilde ab, sondern bieten den Hörern vielmehr spannenden und direkt unter die Haut gehenden Melodic Metal, der des Öfteren gar einen netten kauzigen Anstrich im Stile von genialen Bands wie Cauldron Born oder Miles Beyond erhält!! Mastermind Al Candello entpuppt sich dabei als absolut genialer Songwriter und schlichtweg fantastischer Musiker und auch sein Mitstreiter Ryan Metzger steht dem in Nichts nach, liefert der gute Mann doch eine schier überragende Gesangsleistung ab, bei der man einfach nur noch mit den Ohren schlackern kann!! Glaubt mir, nach dem was der gute Ryan auf "The Age Of Reckoning" geleistet hat, zählt er für mich ganz sicher zur vordersten Garde der US Metal-Sirenen!! Ob beschwörend und in mittleren Lagen oder auch mal hoch und spitz, die Vocals sind immer absolut fantastisch und begeistern durch eine höchst angenehme Klangfarbe ebenso wie durch ein großes Maß an Eigenständigkeit und einwandfreies technisches Können!! Musikalisch wie gesanglich sind hier wahre Könner am Werk und das tut den Songs natürlich enorm gut, haben es schlichtweg geniale Melodic/Epic Granaten ala "Burn The Witch", "Repentance" oder "Kynvorloc" doch wirklich verdient, von solcherlei Supermusikern intoniert zu werden!! Hier treffen die besten Elemente aus melodischem 80er Metal ala Helloween, neoklassischem Power Metal ala Yngwie Malmsteen, verwunschenem Epic Metal ala Warlord, kauzigem US Stahl ala Helstar und verspieltem 70e Rock ala Deep Purple aufeinander und vermengen sich mit einer großen Portion Eigenständigkeit zu einem wahrhaft überragenden Classic Metal Cocktail, an dem alle Melodic, Progressive, Power und Heavy Freaks ihre wahre Freude haben werden!! Diese Songs machen nicht nur jede Menge Spaß, nein, sie haben auch ungemein Tiefgang und beinhalten jede Menge Potential für wieder- und wiedermaliges Durchhören!! Denn fürwahr, "The Age Of Reckoning" wird auch nach dem x-ten Durchlauf nicht die Bohne langweilig... im Gegenteil, hat man die Scheibe erst das eine oder andere Mal aufgelegt, dann kommt man davon einfach nicht mehr los!! Hier herrscht oberste Suchtgefahr!! Hört euch nur mal das obskure "Burn The Witch", das düstere "Kynvorloc", das aufmunternde "Fairy Tale" oder auch das beeindruckende Jesus Christ Superstar Cover "Heaven On Their Minds" an und ihr werdet mir garantiert zustimmten!! Diese Band ist einfach etwas ganz besonderes und ihr brandneues Album ist ein wahrer Pflichtkauf für jeden Freund melodischen Heavy Metals mit Seele, Tiefgang und Magie!! Und da nicht nur die Mucke wirklich fantastisch ist, sondern auch das Artwork absolut brillant daherkommt und einem echten Kunstwerk gleicht, solltet ihr besser schon mal 'nen Ehrenplatz in eurem CD Schrank frei räumen, von welchem aus ihr diese super CD nicht nur jeder Zeit griffbereit habt, sondern sich obendrein auch noch ihr wunderschönes Cover stets in Blickreichweite befindet!! Und wenn jetzt noch Fragen offen sind und ich euch vom unbedingten Erwerb von "The Age Of Reckoning" immer noch nicht überzeugen konnte, dann hilft wohl nur noch ein Verweis auf www.myspace.com/aspirenyc und das dringende Anraten, den dort vorhandenen Tracks unbedingt ein Ohr zu leihen. Denn wie so oft sagt auch im Falle Aspire ein schlichtweg genialer Song wie "Burn The Witch" einfach mehr als tausend Worte -- und mögen sie auch noch so vor Lob und Begeisterung strotzen... ;)

New York based Metal outfit Aspire are one of those bands that gives me hope for the US scene, and their lates release only re-inforces that hope! "The Age Of Reckoning" is the second album from the band, and they`ve obviously grown leaps and bounds since their last album, "Quest Eternal" , and evinced by the tracks like "Burn The Witch", which kicks off the disc after a brief intro. First off, the guys are brilliant musicians of the highest calibre, yet mature enough to know when to hold back and not overplay, a common pitfall for less seasoned players. The song is the main thing with Aspire, though they certainly aren`t afraid to show off their chops when called to do so! At times, they remind me of early Crimson Glory and perhaps Manilla Road, but seem to have found their own voice as well. The recording, while not a million dollar affair, certainly give the tunes an added power; give a listen to "Center And Part Of the Whole", "Repentance", "Kynvorloc", 'Verona's Walls" for proof. Although there would appear to be a central theme, each track can be enjoyed individually, showing the care that obviously went into the songwriting. And a pleasant surprise for me was the inclusion of "Heaven On Their Minds" from Jesus Christ Superstar; Aspire keep the original arrangement intact while Metalizing the Andrew Lloyd Webber tune to stunning effect! All in all, one of the finest Metal discs of 2006 and a worthy addition to your Metal collection. Now that you`re done reading this, go to the bands` website and BUY the album! That`s an order!
